Newington Green - Now & Then
An art and architecture project for young people 13 –19 years

Grab this fantastic chance to explore the historic and contemporary buildings on Newington Green. In a one day taster session you can visit local buildings and an architect’s studio to learn about building design. You’ll have the opportunity to test out materials and methods for making architectural models and moving images.

Saturday 20th September, 10:30am - 12:30pmThe Building Exploratory will be open as part of London Open House - visit our exhibition for a chance to find out more about architecture and the wealth of buildings in the borough! There will also be a self-guided activity for families.

Our exciting free programme for families and weekend visitors offers artist-led workshops celebrating creativity and fun. Crafty Buildings
Saturday 12th July, 1:30pm - 3:30pm Alan Baxter Gallery, 70-75 Cowcross Street EC1N 6EJDrop in to the Courtyard & decorate the minature buildings that have appeared there! Explore new craft techniques as you dress up the buildings in a fun and creative way. With the Craft Council. There will also be tea and cakes on sale from Clerkenwell Kitchen. Story Swap Shop
Wednesday 28th May, 1:30pm - 3:30pm, ages 5+Zoom around the globe with London storyteller Robin Welch at this fun family workshop! Bring along a story from anywhere in the world - one from a favourite book, one you've heard before, or even one you have made yourself! Each person can then become the storyteller as the group swap their stories. The session will also include exciting drama games and we will be making maps and bookmarks to show how far our tales have travelled.
Discover Hackney Stories Family Launch
Saturday August 2nd, 1:00pm, The Round ChapelJoin the Building Exploratory and the other members of the Hackney Heritage and Built Environment Partnership for this fun family afternoon launching Discover Hackney Stories Week. There will be music, activities and a chance to find out about all the other events that are taking place during the week.
Summer Programme
Aqua Hackney
How do we use water at home? How has it it shaped the area around us? What does water mean to people all over the world? Led by artist, Karen Logan, this fun programme of free family workshops will explore water in a new way, with exciting creative making activities. Aqua Hackney is sponsored by Horden Cherry Lee Architects. The workshops are free but places are limited so booking is essential.

Friday 8th August: Meet at the Building Exploratory at 1:30pmSee your borough in a new light on this informative walk looking at Hackney's waterways. Led by an artist, this will definitely be a walk with a twist.

'Treasures' on Newington Green
The Newington Green 'treasures', eleven bronze sculptures complete with sound recordings, await your discovery! They seek to inform, entice, involve and enchant through revealing the hidden heritage of this special place. The Green is open every day - why not see if you can find them all?
